Day 71 - Friday, September 26, 1997The Playground RV Park, Boise, Idaho - We decided to take the bikes out today and ride around Boise. In many ways Boise is a bike friendly town. Many of the streets have marked bike lanes. Along the Boise River, which runs through town, there is a bike trail. There are even white lines down the middle and double-yellow lines to indicate blind curves. What a treat! We started off at Boise State. It's a quaint little campus with a God-awful ugly stadium with blue Astro-Turf. Yech!! We then headed off down the river to the outskirts of town, which is pretty close to the mountains. There we found what appeared to be an ancient Indian idol. After riding through the sprinklers outside the zoo, Marci's bike blew a tire. We pumped it back up and continued riding back to the university where Jim's bike then blew a tire (he's such a copycat). His tire wouldn't hold any air, so we had to walk our bikes back to the starting point a mile or so away. Back at camp we worked on replacing the inner tubes with new ones when yet another tire blew. This one had three holes in it. Not to be outdone, the car then blew all four tires and burst into flames (and Alice threw out her back trying to dance the hula). That's when we realized that the idol was bringing us bad luck, so we went back to return the idol to its resting place. After a narrow escape from Vincent Price, all is well again.
