Day 60 - Monday, September 15, 1997Sawtelle Mountain RV Park, Island Park, Idaho - Did we mention that it's cold? During Marci's pee-run this morning she caught that the temperature was in the 30s.Today was very windy - about 20-30 mph. Combine that with temps only in the 50s and that spells cold!! But we braved the elements again to see the beauty of Yellowstone. We drove to the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, which is about 1,000 feet deep. There were some great viewpoints from the trails and pull-outs along the canyon. We took a hike down to the Lower Falls, where we could see the Yellowstone river drop off into nothingness. The view was breathless. The hike back was breathless, too. The air at 9,000 feet is kind of thin! After the canyon we headed off to Yellowstone Lake where we drove around 21 miles of scenic shoreline. There were some tall mountains on the other side of the lake, which should make for some beautiful photographs. Did you know Lake Yellowstone is the largest lake above 7,000 feet in North America? You'd better remember that in case it's an answer on Jeapordy.
