Day 6 - Wednesday, July 23, 1997Riverdale Farm Campground, Clinton, Connecticut - After a delicious pot of coffee this morning, we decided to stay another night and explore the area. We headed on our bikes to the beach. We were told it was only five miles away - but that doesn't include wrong turns. Ten miles later we were on the beach!! It seems that here in the land of the blue license plate they don't like street signs very much. Several times we had to read the street name from a mailbox just to figure out what street we were on!At the beach the sand was warm and the water was a bit chilly. It was a small beach. The boardwalk was literally that - some boards to walk on! The park had a nature center (Miegs Point). There we saw a huge horseshoe crab and a black snake eat a live fish. They also had a funky window with a bird feeder in it. Somehow the birds couldn't see us, so we could get really close to them. We also saw some older folks flying kites. One lady had a kite shaped like a sea gull. It was very realistic - in fact it pooped on Jimmy's bald head! The trip back took a lot less time than the trip down. This area is really quite pretty. Quite often the roads were next to the river or small estuaries.
