Day 52 - Sunday, September 7, 1997

San-Suz-Ed, West Glacier, Montana - It was cold again last night. Very cold.

Sunday is game day. Of course, out here the game starts at eleven, not at one like back east. We decided to try to catch the second half of the game, so we went driving in search of a bar/lounge/casino with a satellite dish. We landed in Columbia Falls (15 miles away) at a bowling alley/bar/casino. Unfortunately, they had not paid for their NFL ticket, so they couldn't show the games. But they sent us to Kalispel (another 15 miles). When we finally arrived in Kalispel, it was the fourth quarter. All the other games had 8-12 minutes left. The Redskins game was at the two minute warning. So we got to watch them lose the game. Gee, what fun!!

After the game we called to wish Jim's mother a happy birthday. She is sixty-seven freaking years old!! Wow!! We hope we look as good as her when we're that old. Hell, Jim wishes he looked that good now!!

We spent the rest of the afternoon in Glacier Park. We played along McDonald Lake and hit the falls again. The water in the lake is incredibly clear. The bottom is rocky, so there's no sediment to discolor the water. We walked out on a dock and were able to see straight down to the bottom in about four feet of water. Wild!! The water in the stream is cold and tastes great from a tin cup.

For dinner we had pizza. The pizza places up here open only for dinner. Not enough business for lunch!! Our waitress was from Philadelphia. Turns out that she took off several years ago to see the country. She ran out of money in Montana, got a job, then decided she liked it, so she stayed. We sometimes wonder where we'll be when we run out of money and are forced to stay. Hopefully it won't be in a place that measures snow in FEET instead of inches!
