Day 45 - Sunday, August 31, 1997

Rafter-J Bar Ranch Campground, Hill City, South Dakota - Today was a lazy day. We both spent the afternoon finishing the books we were reading. We have plenty of books to read since most campgrounds have a book exchange. That is, you can turn in a book and grab a New2U book left by another camper. We haven't paid for a book since we left, though we've had several new ones!!

We wanted to watch the Redskins game, so we went to a local lounge/casino called Chute Roosters, but they were showing baseball!! In a panice we began searching for another place. It turns out that a little restaurant called Continental Cafe had the game, so we munched on burgers and watched the first half.

We went into town for the second half stopping at the Mangy Moose Saloon. Being short of tattoos, boots, and criminal records, we didn't fit in. So we headed over to O'Bryans Pub. There we enjoyed popcorn and the second half. While there we met a local young lady who was preparing to move to Seattle. We chatted with her for a long while, getting the scoop on small towns in South Dakota. Apparently folks are a little uptight in the hills!! In fact we had to leave the pub at 10:30, which was already past their closing time!!! Boy, do they know how to party around here!
