Day 40 - Tuesday, August 26, 1997KOA Kennebec, Kennebec, South Dakota - We drove a few hundred miles today and landed in Kennebec right as a band of heavy thunderstorms hit the area. From here we will hit the Badlands for a day, then go to the Black Hills to spend at least part of Labor Day Weekend. We could have stayed closer, but we were tired and didn't feel like fighting the weather. This campground has a hot tub, which is a giant plus for us!! Needless to say Marci is walking very carefully these days (remember her fall?)! This evening we rested up from our drive by lounging in the hot tub and watching the lightning strikes in the distance. Don't worry, Mom, the storms were so far away we couldn't even hear the thunder. The sky here in South Dakota is huge - you can see a long, long, long way. We also had some very strong winds this evening, which rocked The Den around a bit. Everything held together just fine, but it was very noisy. Somehow Buck managed to sleep through most of it. He would have slept through all of it, but we kept waking him up. If we don't sleep, nobody sleeps.
