Day 4 - Monday, July 21, 1997

Riverdale Farm Campground, Clinton, Connecticut - Tolls, tolls, tolls. Everywhere tolls. Here a toll, there a toll. Everywhere a toll toll. We've learned the definition of turnpike: a poorly constructed road for which one must pay large sums of money for the privilege of driving. We headed out of Pennsylvania and directly through New Jersey (we didn't want to get our shoes dirty). We whizzed right by New York City during rush hour (some things never change). And after about six hours of driving, ended up in Clinton, Connecticut.

We are staying at the very nice (and pretty crowded) Riverdale Farm Campground. We're three miles away from the Hammonasset Beach (pronounced Hmanalsaksjlado Beach).

While watching the local news we found a weatherman who actually guarantees his temperature predictions. If he's wrong, some lucky viewer gets a free umbrella. Apparently, his accuracy is 86% this year. I wonder if he pays for the umbrellas out of his own pocket? Maybe that's what the tolls are for!
