Day 30 - Saturday, August 16, 1997

Hickory Hills Campground, Edgerton, Wisconsin - We drove from Indiana through Illinois into Wisconsin on our way to the Mississippi River. The drive through Chicago on 94/90 was great. The Chicago skyline is quite spectacular. We saw the Sears Tower (it's shaped like a huge catalog) among some very other tall buildings. We also encountered McDonald's restaurants situated on overpasses, apparently along the El (elevated train). We are not into cities, so we saw enough of Chicago to satisfy our curiosity.

While driving north of the Windy City through some nasty storms, we heard the Emergency Broadcast System signal on the radio. There was a tornado warning for the county we were in. Jim wanted to turn and try to find it, but Marci convinced him not to. "Remember what happened to Dorothy," she warned.

We stopped for the night here in Wisconsin. This campground had a DJ in the game room playing (yech) country music. People were line dancing. It was horrible!! We decided to celebrate our seventh wedding anniversary by having dinner at the local A&W Restaurant. Ooh, do we really know how to live it up!!
