KOA Kampgrounds Niagara Falls, Grand Island, New York - We headed due west today for Niagara Falls. Rather than take Route 90, we decided to take Route 20. Not only did we save the toll (every little bit counts), we got a much more scenic and pleasurable drive. Since we're fully loaded, we can't really enjoy the 65-75 MPH that everyone else does on the interstates, so we prefer smaller roads where we only go 50-60 anyway, even if we run the risk of hitting one lane dirt roads!
Our drive was broken up by the Finger Lakes region where we passed through some resort towns. We had considered stopping, but we have an idea for where we want to be for the weekend, so we decided not to. We also drove through several storms - the only bad weather driving so far. I guess those PTL donations are paying off!
We pulled into the KOA a little after 7:00 PM. It is located on Grand Island, which is a rather large (for a river) island on the Niagara, just a few miles upstream from Niagara Falls itself. This campground is what is called a "Metro" campground. That means it has more pavement than grass and more buildings than trees!
We ended up right next to the bathrooms, which is completely opposite of the last site we had. There we had to walk exactly 312 steps to get to the facilities (when you have to pee, you need something to occupy your mind). The Kampground is okay, though, if you don't mind being five feet away from your
neighbor!
