Getaway Mountain Campground, Ascutney, Vermont - Today we decided to see what Vermonters mean when they say "heated" pool!. It is heated by a solar hose and a wood stove. The water coming out of the hose was quite hot! Jim enjoyed pouring this water over his bald head...much to the amazement of the crowd. Warm water was being pumped into the pool about midway. It was a great place to stand while in the water, but it made the rest of the water seem frigid when leaving it's warm comfort.
After swimming and playing with the locals in the pool we headed to Askutney State Park. Marci packed a picnic lunch - who said she couldn't cook? The dry cereal was delicious. We fully intended to ride our bikes around after lunch until we found out the only ride was a four mile uphill trail. Needless to say, we chose to walk.
We walked up Bare Rock Point on Mt. Askutney. It was about a mile up the summit. We didn't realize how steep the hike was until it was time to go down. We saw a frog pee on a log. I think we scared him...or maybe he's just an exhibitionist like Buck.
We took a nap when we got back (I told you the hike was steep). By the time we woke up the water in the pool was about 83º. So we went for a romantic evening swim. This lasted for all of five minutes before a family of ten showed up to enjoy the water, too. Jim had fun playing with them while Marci decided to take a long, hot shower. Best shower in three weeks!
