Day 20 - Wednesday, August 6, 1997

Timberland Camping Area, Shelburne, New Hampshire - We spent seven hours on the road today!!

Being only 60 miles from the north end of I-95 (and thus Canada), we decided to drive to the very end of this well known interstate. We've already been to the other end of I-95 in Miami, Florida, so we just had to complete the circuit, if for no other reason than to say that we did it! So we drove all the way to Houlton, Maine, just 50 yards from where the customs offices are. We could see Canada from here. It looked a lot like Maine, only more French.

We stopped at the duty-free shop and posed for a picture next to a billboard that read, "Last Exit Before Canada". We also called our good friend and mystic, John "Sees All" Hornyak, on his toll free number to have him tell us where to go next. He said, "Go to Vermont. There you must see the Gods of Ice Cream, Ben and Jerry."

So we turned the car around and headed south again, hanging a right at Bangor (that's Bang Oar, not Banger) and taking Route 2 into New Hampshire. We stopped here at Shelburne, which is in the White Mountain area. The largest mountain in the northeast, Mount Washington, is close by. We ate out for the first time since we left, enjoying pizza and dessert at Mr. Pizza.

Did we mention yet that it is cold? It is 58º here in The Den, and it's only 11:00 PM!
