Hidden Springs Campground, Cumberland, Maryland - Our good friend and best buddy, John Frances
Hornyak, showed up this morning at around 10 AM. John easily found our site by spotting the Tomato Wagon, our orange 1982 Mercedes diesel station wagon (chicks dig this car). We drove 1/2 hour to Frostburg State University
(FSU) to watch the Redskins scrimmage the Steelers. Admission was $6.50, but the parking was free. This was better than in past years when parking was $2.50, and admission was $4.
After the scrimmage we headed to Duncan's Bar and Grill on the recommendation of our friend Pat
Wiexel, who graduated from FSU with a double-major in Forestry and Excessive Drinking. We asked the bartender if he remembered Pat. He said he did remember a guy who seemed to laugh a lot, but nobody actually heard anything!
In the afternoon we hit Rocky Gap State Park. We started with a quick swim and then paddled a canoe around the lake. Actually, John and Jim did the paddling; Marci just looked pretty. The lake is surrounded by mountains on all sides. It's really quite pleasant.
We spent the evening talking and playing guitar by our campfire. We even roasted some marshmallows (they're made out of corn syrup, you know). John left around 11 PM with sad goodbyes and his leftover beers. It was tough saying goodbye. We will miss him, but we will keep in touch.
