Day 18 - Monday, August 4, 1997
|
Katahdin Shadows Campground, Medway, Maine - We woke up this morning ready to go to Vermont to visit Ben and Jerry's, but decided at the last minute to head northwest into the Maine mainland.
Katahdin Shadows is about 15 miles away from Baxter State Park, a wilderness refuge in the Maine woods. Mount Katahdin is Maine's highest peak checking in at around 5,500 feet. We don't plan to go into the park because we are not equipped for hiking at this point. This park is for serious hikers and climbers, which we are not.
This campground does have lots of bunny rabbits. Seriously - this joint is really hopping! We fed our apple cores to the bunnies, who came right up and took it from our hands. They look so cute...and delicious!
