Day 110 - Tuesday, November 4, 1997

Mad River RV Resort - Arcata, California - Today we decided to check out the Redwoods by going to Arcata Community Forest. We hiked along several trails and were pretty impressed with the big trees. The scenery was much like that of the Hoh Rainforest (see Day 92), but the Redwoods are more scarlett in color than the Sitka Spruce.

We also drove to Eureka for lunch. We had a coupon for a free lunch at an Italian restaurant (coupons are our friends). However, once we got into the restaurant we immediately felt out of place. It appeared to be a rather high-class place especially since we were still in our traveling vagabond costumes.

We walked around looking for other places to eat and settled on The Diner. This place was much more our style. The grease cook even came out while we were leaving to ask us whether or not we liked our sandwiches. Oh, don't worry. We had a coupon for this place, too.

Today was also a day in which we decided to reevaluate our packing situation in the Tomato Wagon. We even threw away some items that we thought we would need but have since decided are unnecessary. For example, the baby powder we brought took up too much space for the few times we used it. Also, our portable arc welder, steel anvil and Bessie, our dairy cow, were just cramping our style.
