Day 103 - Tuesday, October 28, 1997

Ash Creek RV Park, Independence, Oregon - When we took the turn off of US 99 to go to the RV park, we heard someone beeping their car horn at us. Just as we were preparing our single-finger salute, we realized that the honker was actually Jim's sister Cynthia! When she said she lived in a small town, she wasn't kidding!

We set up The Den, ate lunch, then called Cynthia. No answer. We were hanging out watching TV, when lo and behold there was a knock at our door and voice calling out, "You're not messing around, are you?" Knowing our parents are back in Maryland, we figured it had to be Cynthia. When asked how she found us, she said, "Where else would you stay?" She had a point.

We spent the evening with Cynthia and our nephews, Chad and Chase. We took the tour of downtown Monmouth, the sister city to Independence. For dinner we actually had a home-cooked meal with more than two dishes (The Den has only two burners). As a special treat, Cynthia rented a video for us, bought popcorn, and left us the use of the house for a few hours to veg out. What a treat!
